‘레퓨지아(Refugia)’는 빙하기에 동식물이 모두 멸종되어도 영향을 받지 않고, 원래의 동식물이 살아남은 장소를 말한다. 그 어원처럼 껍질만 남은 나무에서도 싹이 움트고, 나무는 뿌리를 박지 않아도 꽃을 피우며 열매를 맺는다. 그 결실은 빛에 의해 순간순간 형형색색으로 아름답게 드러난다. 작가는 현실에선 불가능할 ‘기적’을 심어 희망을 북돋는다.

Refugia are places where the original flora and fauna survived untouched, even when all other life perished during the ice age. Like this etymology, a sprout emerges from a tree left with only its shell; without roots, it blooms and bears fruit. Its fruition is revealed in ever-changing colors by the light. The artist plants a 'miracle' that seems impossible in reality, inspiring hope.
